How Solar Pool Heating Works |
|
Using your existing pump and filtration system, a solar pool heating system simply diverts the flow of pool water through solar collectors which absorb and store energy from the sun in the form of heat. This heat is transferred to your pool water as it flows through the collectors, preheating the water before it reaches your conventional, backup heater and returns to the pool. ![]() Since you want water to flow through the collectors whenever the sun is out and the collectors are hotter than the pool, but not to flow through the collectors when they are colder than the pool, a valve is placed between the pool pump and heater. This can be a manual valve or an automatic flo-verter valve attached to a control unit. When using an automatic valve you simply set your control unit for the desired water temperature and let automatic sensors decide when there will be a net heat gain. When the collectors are hot the valve turns to divert cold pool water up through the collectors and back on its path to the backup heater and into the pool, continuously circulating through the collectors until it reaches pre-set temperature levels. At night and in limited sunshine, a sensor prevents the pool from being cooled by automatically triggering the controller to bypass the solar collectors. Please contact us if you would like more information on how solar pool heating systems work. |
